2. Plan Highlights

Highlight 1.

A lot of other hosting companies usually charge for this service, so it’s a huge plus if it comes included.
(below is what BlueHost charges for this service)

Highlight 2:

Free SSL! The average cost of an SSL certificate will run between $10 and $50 per year. Not to mention the hassle of getting it installed. SiteGround has partnered with Let’s Encrypt to take the installation hassle away while saving their clients money.
(below is a reputable company that sells SSL certificates)

Highlight 3:

Discounted Cloudflare CDN! I know it says free, but CloudFlare already offers a free plan that is open to the public. However, the plus plan through SiteGround will cost you $11.95/month as oppose to $20/month.

3. Performance

In my opinion, this is where SiteGround shines. Immediately after migrating my website from eHost, I noticed a drastic increase in speed and performance. As a developer who works exclusively with WordPress, I noticed a great improvement on the recovery time after updating a page while developing.

Speed

Page speed is a critical factor for all website owners looking to decrease bounce rates and increase conversions. The average load speed is around 3 seconds. Any decrease below that will beat approximately 50% of website worldwide. (see below).

  • 5s = faster than 25% of the web
  • 2.9s faster than 50% of the web
  • 1.7s faster than 75% of the web
  • 0.8s faster than 94% of the web

see reference

SiteGround utilizes speed technology that uses a powerful combination of NGINX servers, solid states drives, PHP7, Cloudflare CDN, and HTTP/2 servers that makes for a super fast page load.

Uptime

SiteGround’s uptime is phenomenal. I work at a full service ad agency who purchased a vps with a so called reputable hosting company called ipage. Along with having terrible support, our websites went down constantly. So as you would imagine, we had a lot of angry clients with no good answers to why their websites went down.

SiteGround has uptime technology that uses Linux containers, server monitoring, and secure account isolation to sustain their uptime percentages. Take a look at their latest uptime percentage.

Super Cacher

SiteGround even developed it’s own plugin called SG Optimizer. It combines and minifies JavaScript and CSS files, inlines small resources, and has a great image optimizer that removes unused meta-data from each image. It also resizes the images to specified dimensions and re-encodes images to be served in the most efficient format available.

4. Support

Having worked with other hosting companies, I could tell you good support is not easy to come by. One hosting company I dealt with actually had a fast response time, but their technicians were not properly trained to handle difficult problems. SiteGround’s tech staff are knowledgeable and even offered advice outside the scoop of their support. The response time is fast and they have gone above and beyond to answer any of my questions.

5. Security

SiteGround isolates their servers to prevent other websites from effecting each other. Plus their ongoing patches and security monitoring help compact against hacks and unwanted threats.

6. Privately Owned

If you are like me and worked with several hosting companies, you’ll come to notice a similarity between the very popular hosting providers. The similarities I experienced is poor customer service and poor server performance. Truth is, these companies are really one company. They are all owned by Endurance International Group. This might seem like a good thing (bigger is better right), but in truth it has had a detrimental effect on the child companies. When the parent company went public (EIGI) in 2013, the company’s “bottom dollar” has seemed to supersede customer satisfaction.
Below are just a few hosting companies under EIG:

  • BlueHost
  • eHost
  • HostGator
  • HostMonster
  • iPage
  • MojoMarketplace
  • Site5

You can find a full list here.

SiteGround on the other hand is a privately owned. The company was founded in 2004, and they service more than 800,000 websites worldwide. Their customer service and server performance are one of the best I’ve ever experienced.

7. Customer Reviews

Before I decided to try SiteGround, I did my due diligence just like you’re doing now. I Googled SG in search of any negative reviews and could not find any. In addition, I found tons of social media threads mentioning and comparing SiteGround to other hosting companies. Below are a few threads to check out:

8. Company Overview

9. Testimonials

And this is why I think SiteGround is one of the Best Hosting Services out there.
